Broker's Comments
Built at Southern Ocean Marine in New Zealand and launched in 2006 as Temenos II, the design of this Open 60 benefited from a hull development and testing program undertaken in partnership with the internationally renowned Wolfson Unit of Southampton University. Temenos II was engineered by SP Gurit and was the first offshore racing yacht with a deck and internal structure constructed entirely from Kevlar honeycomb core.
Mirabaud has over the years undergone a continuous program of upgrades including an HDS designed, Crain Technologies built autoclaved pre-preg carbon keel. During her last major refit in 2011 a new very light double spreader Southern Spars classic rig with EC6 rigging was stepped, the coachroof modified and tiller steering added. Significant weight savings were made in the overall package and at the start of the 2012 Vendee Globe the yacht measured in at less than 8.5 tonnes whilst exceeding the maximum righting moment rule developed for the new boats.
Mirabaud’ s best result in a major race has been a third in the first Barcelona World Race, along with a solid string of good results against newer competition in other races offshore and inshore. Mirabaud is well known as a reliable, solid competitor and so an ideal entry level yacht for a first time team looking to gain experience in the IMOCA Class, especially for the upcoming Barcelona World Race.
Mirabaud is in racing condition following the Vendee Globe and is being sold with her safety and other equipment as a turn key racing package. The low asking price does not reflect any known defects or deterioration in her condition, merely an expectation by the owner to pass the boat on to a new team quickly in plenty of time for an entry in the Transat Jacques Vabres. The condition of the yacht and the low list price may also open the possibility of entry into IMOCA events for private and sponsored skippers from other classes who had not contemplated doing so at this time.
