At Boatshed we are always thinking of ways to help people sell their boats more efficiently and providing a better service to both seller and purchaser.
If you fancy a dip in the sea at Christmas, you are either brave/daft or raising money for charity – after all who would want to leave the comfort of their over warm homes to jump into icy waters if it wasn’t for charity!?
With the increased popularity of Bitcoin and Barclays Bank now set to start accepting the "virtual" currency. Boatshed wanted to get ahead of the curve and offer "Bitcoin" as a currency choice when buying a boat. This is a first for the marine industry and makes a great PR story for us.

The America's Cup World Series drew a mixed response from a huge crowd after last weekend at Southsea, an exciting event, but with only 1 hour of proper racing, for some the value for money element may be hard to see after spending £100 on a seat. Whether an 'evacuation' order made on the Sunday from the Fanzone was the right wording to use will be judged by others. At least the home team won, and cutting edge boats and designs were showcased just off the shore, inspiring many...even the non sailors! These boats are as similar to what mere mortals sail as a Formula 1 car is to a road car, hence there are limitations as the designs are so extreme. Mind you, I'm sure Spandau Ballet or Wet Wet Wet didn't mind the chance to strut the stage in the apres sail entertainments. Enjoy the photos, a great event for the south coast and Portsmouth.
Sunday's racing at the America's Cup event in Portsmouth has been cancelled due to bad weather. Forecast strong winds forced the regatta director to first delay the start and then abandon the two races. This means Ben Ainslie and his Land Rover Racing team have secured the victory for the weekend. Various members of the Boatshed team were on hand to witness the events and Saturday gave some great racing. Not a great introduction to the joys of sailing and boating as lots of boating fans had a great weekend despite the weather. "Tied up in Cowes in the rain was fun too!" reports one Boatshed customer A typical well hyped sporting event is the way some would describe it but the Sailing Anarchy Website are not impressed HERE
Boatshed Portsmouth were privileged to be invited to the UK launch of endurance swimmer Anna Wardley's next swim challenge. The Balearic Swim Challenge, will see her swim more than 130 miles of the Mediterranean sea her biggest challenge yet. The experienced swimmer will take to the water and go from Menorca to Majorca, then Ibiza and finally on to mainland Spain.
It was a blustery, sunny day giving perfect weather for The "Round the Island Race 2015". 1584 boats racing around the Isle of Wight, approximately 60 miles. Neap tides were 3 days prior to the start of the race, with high water at Cowes being around 08.30. Racing started at 07.00 with the large boats, and the smallest boats started last.
Gosport, the home of ocean racing, the birth place of camper & Nicholson's where Velsheda was built, at 10.00 the festival was officially opened by Alex Thomson, Gosport's very own round the World Solo Skipper. The weather started off grey and cool and windy, but then the sun came out and the crowds poured in. The sunny, blustery day didn't dampen the day, over 1100 newbies to boating, got out onto the water in one way or another on dinghies, RIBS, tall ships, harbour tours, canoes, paddleboards, 70ft racing yachts, Gypsy Moth IV, Wet wheels, wheel chair friendly motor boat charity run by Geoff Holt MBE, and historic boats.

Many of the conditions and trends in the international used boat market that I reported upon in November 2014 continue and remain highly relevant to boat sales today. Overall, the market can be summarised as follow:
We are delighted to announce our new relationship with BWML. BWML is part of the UK’s Canal & River Trust (formally, British Waterways) a national charity whose primary role is the custodian and navigation authority for around 2,000 miles of canals and rivers across England and Wales. Boatshed is now the exclusive external broker in most of BWML’s 20 locations, available to assist our customers with the sale and purchase of Narrowboats and other inland waterway vessels. Our brokers in these locations are experts in these specialist craft and familiar with the unique pleasures of inland boating.
Boatshed is delighted to announce its endorsement of the Maritime Training Academy's Diploma in Yacht Brokerage, the leading distance learning course to train and prepare new brokers for the used boat industry. Boatshed is working with the MTA to offer graduate brokers effective routes into the industry using Boatshed's market leading sales platform.
At the Southampton Boat Show last year, Boatshed, together with the Marine Inspection Association of leading marine surveyors, introduced the use of IPAs when selling used sail and motor boats. An IPA is a further tool to increase the transparency of a used boat offered for sale. Boats we sell can be physically inspected, assessed and reported upon by an experienced, independent, marine surveyor before, or whilst they are listed. Up to 55 critical areas of a second-hand boat are assessed and the IPA report can be viewed by an interested buyer alongside the boat’s details.
