This is where we publish our boat related stories and articles, which range from world circumnavigation to rescue missions, humour and much, much more. So make yourself a coffee and settle yourself down to a good read.
After a long eventful year of 2009, and an even longer winter with what seemed to be a new Ice Age here on the Isle of Wight with more snow than we have had for a very long time!! Boatshed Cowes has moved from Cowes High Street.
They have always been there, somewhere, lurking not so much in my mind as so many things seem to lurk, but more generally in the bottom of a cockpit locker. The white plastic canister, the yellow or orange industrial carrier bag, doesn’t recycle it just yet. Yes, it’s the life raft. When skippers of old used to give me briefings before setting off for parts foreign they were generally covered with the cursory wave of a knarled weather worn hand, having first exposed the package from beneath a couple of old warps, buckets, oars, fenders, you know the sort of thing. Or, in the case of the more fastidious of owners, neatly wrapped in heavy duty polyethylene and bound in gaffa tape, followed by a sage “You need to look after these things my boy, they cost a fortune”.
A huge congratulations going out to a friend of Boatshed.com Mr Geoff Holt!!

Boatshed Essex Team:
Boatshed has devised a new way of allowing people to join their winning team through the launch of Boatshed Agents.
The Jester Challenge has its supporters and critics, but whatever you think about it it’s certainly becoming a firm fixture on the sailing calendar. The 2010 event which leaves from off Plymouth Breakwater at 13:00 BST on 23rd May already has 93 entries. Boats are less than 30 feet but the current list is an incredibly fascinating and varied mix of boats and people. One such sailor is Gus Davidson who are taking part in the challenge in his boat Just Right in order to raise money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer support. Raising money is their main aim although there will undoubtedly be some adventure along the way .
We all want our boats to look like new, luckily as a Yacht Broker I get to see some very tasty well kept boats but I also see very many used boats which although perfectly serviceable and sea worthy are no longer as pristine as they used to be, my own boat is still in reasonable condition but she is almost 30 now and did have a fairly hard racing career in her day so there are a few knocks and dings which in the ideal world I’d like to fix but don’t have the skills to do well.
T MINUS 0 HOURS TILL LAUNCH, ALL SYSTEMS ARE GOOD TO GO!!

The Southampton Boat Show drew to a close today and Boatshed.com along with many other exhibitors can report that it has been another very successful and enjoyable event. Our stand this year which was an actual shed was incredibly busy and as always was manned by members of the Boatshed team throughout the show so we were able to explain all the fantastic Boatshed features to visitors and demonstrate how best to use the site. Business was brisk in both the buying and selling of used boats and we also had great interest from those wanting to join the Boatshed team and open new Boatshed offices to expand the business further.
The PSP Southampton Boatshow is underway and visitors numbers look healthy.
This is always one of the most hectic weeks for the Boatshed HQ team with the build up to the Southampton Boat Show and this year has been no different. Boatshed.com is still running at full steam with a stream of used boats being bought, sold and listed everyday but the team have also been at the show ground preparing our stand and getting everything in place to ensure we are fully equipped to answer all your boating question and explain just how the Boatshed system works whether you are a boat buyer or a boat seller.
Boatshed.com has just received yet another industry accolade. Boatshed.com is ranked in the top ten most visited sites with Hitwise the Experian internet measurement company.
Gosport is home to Boatshed.com Head Quarters, plus it is also home of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Today Monday 31 August 2009 the fleet departed Portsmouth Harbour and won’t return for almost a year. Royal Clarence Marina is set within the grade 2 listed ex victualling yard of Nelsons Navy in Gosport, just inside Portsmouth harbour entrance to the west. The Clipper crews (2000) and yachts (12) are prepared to set sail for the Humber and the official start of the Clipper 09-10 Race on 13 September. The street market on the promenade in Royal Clarence Marina had stalls selling food and other goodies while local bands play to create a party atmosphere. At 12.45pm the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Mrs Diane Searle, will address the assembled crews and wish them fair winds for their adventure on behalf of the people of the Borough. Clipper’s chairman and founder, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will also be in attendance. Once the skippers and crews have joined their yachts the Clipper 09-10 Race fleet will slip their lines and head out into Portsmouth Harbour, where they will be joined in a flotilla by local sailors prior to setting sail for the Humber.
The Southampton International boat show is just around the corner and as ever Boatshed.com will be there, we’ll be at stand C53 and we’d like to extend a very warm invitation to anyone coming to the show to come over and see us. Don’t forget our legendary fizz@five everyday at the show when all are welcome to come for a glass of fizz and a boaty chat.
The BoatBid.com catalogue has a range of used motor and sailing boats on offer. All the boats are keenly priced as they are very seriously for sale but some of them though fantastic boats are not that well known so I thought I’d let you know a little more about a couple of them.
